Responding to Domestic Violence and Strangulation Incidents
- National Indian Country Training Initiative
- Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, constitutes some of the most challenging and high risk calls that law enforcement officers will handle. Domestic violence calls can be complex with the potential of lethality, both to the victim, responding officers, and innocent bystanders. Factors that contribute to the high-priority nature of these calls include the potential for escalation, the presence of children and pets, the presence of weapons, recurring incidents, and the potential for lethal outcomes. Specialized training on responding to domestic violence scenarios assists officers to handle these situations more effectively and empathetically.
