Laura Obert

Laura was born in Missoula and grew up mostly in Havre before attending Montana State University in Bozeman, where she studied English Literature.  She left Montana to work and lived in Washington DC, where she was a nanny.  She earned a degree in Phoenix in Travel Management worked for Alaska Airlines in Seattle before returning home to Montana and settling in Townsend with her husband, Brian Obert.  There they built a business selling Laura’s acrylic paintings and refurbishing and selling antique furniture.

Laura was elected to serve as a Broadwater County Commissioner in 2008.  She believes the best leaders lead by example and she actively volunteers in a variety of ways for her community.  She is a charter member and past president of the Soroptimist Club in Townsend, a group of professional women who work to better the lives of women and children.  She is a member of Townsend Rotary, where she organizes the art, craft and food vendors for Townsend Rotary Fall Fest held every October.  She is secretary of BCDC (Broadwater County Development Corporation) and a member of Chamber of Commerce.  She also teaches Summer Art Camp, Career Education and the After School Art Program in the Townsend Schools.
